Feng Shui is an ancient system that analyzes the quality of energy in our environment and its influence on our lives.

Q: Could you share with us what initially drew you to the study of Feng Shui, and how it evolved into founding Earth Luck International?

My journey into the world of feng shui began unexpectedly, rooted in my background as an aeronautical engineer. At 17, I entered aviation school, graduating with honors at 19 1/2. I faced a choice between NASA and Goodyear Aerospace, ultimately choosing Goodyear for its excellent pay, convenient location, and work-life balance.

My upbringing in private and Catholic schools, coupled with having a Catholic priest as a cousin, instilled in me a deep skepticism towards psychics and clairvoyants. This belief was challenged when my then-wife expressed interest in visiting a psychic, prompted by a friend's insistence.

Initially, I discouraged her, suggesting she use financial constraints as an excuse. However, her wealthy friend unexpectedly paid for the session. My x-wife returned from the psychic visibly shaken, having been told she would die - an unusually dire prediction for a psychic. This rekindled her long-standing fears, as she had purchased a gravesite at 17, always sensing an early demise.

Determined to debunk the psychic's claims, I decided to visit myself. Despite my efforts to conceal my identity, the psychic immediately sensed my connection to aviation, leaving me baffled and intrigued.

This experience sparked an eight-year quest to understand psychic abilities. I meticulously documented my visits to various psychics, creating detailed spreadsheets to analyze their methods. However, I grew discouraged, finding that while some could see the future, none could change it.

My research led me to discover feng shui through a newly translated book. As an engineer, I was captivated by its scientific basis in cardinal directions and magnetic fields. Using early internet services, I connected with an Asian master starting his own school. Our shared interest in martial arts further cemented our relationship.
I began offering free feng shui consultations, which quickly gained popularity through word-of-mouth. As demand grew, I had to start charging for my services. Eventually, I faced a pivotal decision between my established aviation career and my burgeoning passion for feng shui.

In a move that surprised even myself, I chose to pursue feng shui full-time, leaving behind my FAA- approved repair station. This decision, made nearly 30 years ago, has shaped my life ever since.

Looking back, I'm still amazed at how a skeptical aeronautical engineer found his calling in the ancient practice of feng shui. And yes, it's worth noting - my ex-wife, whose psychic reading started this journey, is still very much alive.

Q: Reflecting on the wisdom passed down from your mentors, could you share a pivotal lesson that has profoundly shaped your approach to Feng Shui?

Reflecting on my journey in metaphysics, particularly Feng Shui, one pivotal lesson from my mentors stands out: the importance of understanding and adapting ancient wisdom to modern contexts.

The challenge lies in studying metaphysical practices that are thousands of years old through contemporary lenses. Feng Shui, for instance, relies on formulas and concepts developed in a vastly different world. Some of these need updating or reinterpretation to remain relevant in today's rapidly changing environment.

My mentors emphasized the critical task of discerning the essence of these teachings, particularly regarding energy flow. By grasping the fundamental principles, we can effectively apply them to current situations and adapt them for future use.

This lesson taught me to look beyond literal interpretations of ancient texts. Instead, I learned to focus on the underlying energetic principles. This approach allows for a more flexible and nuanced application of Feng Shui, ensuring its continued relevance and effectiveness.

Understanding the core energetic concepts enables us to see their manifestations in modern settings, even as our world evolves. It's about bridging the gap between ancient wisdom and contemporary life, making timeless principles accessible and applicable in our ever-changing world.

This insight has profoundly shaped my approach to Feng Shui, encouraging me to remain adaptable and open-minded while still honoring the depth and richness of this ancient practice.

Q: For those new to Feng Shui, how do you explain its importance in our daily lives and its potential impact on our well-being?

Feng Shui is an ancient system that analyzes the quality of energy in our environment and its influence on our lives. To understand its importance, we need to recognize that everything on Earth is governed by principles of physics and science. Feng Shui is the study of these energies in our surroundings and how they affect us.

The energy in our environment is largely shaped by the choices individuals make. I've observed that when people make decisions during favorable moments in their lives, the resulting energy in their environment reflects those positive circumstances. This energy becomes "baked" into the home and exerts a powerful, long-lasting influence on our lives. Conversely, choices made during unfavorable times can embed negative energy in the environment.

A Feng Shui master can analyze a home or environment and attempt to enhance positive energies or apply remedies to afflicted areas. While this can help, it's never as effective as living in an environment that naturally possesses favorable energies. This is why it's crucial to analyze a home before moving in, ensuring we're aligning ourselves with positive energy flows from the start.

Energy cycles in Feng Shui operate on different timescales - some last 20 years, while others are yearly, monthly, or even daily. It's the interaction of these various cycles that shapes our lives. Understanding what energies we're currently experiencing and what's coming in the future is of great importance in navigating our lives effectively.

Timing is a critical aspect of Feng Shui, and it provides us with powerful tools for aligning our actions with beneficial energy cycles. By understanding these principles, we can make more informed decisions about our living spaces and daily activities, potentially improving our overall well-being and success in life.

For those new to Feng Shui, it's important to see it not as mysticism, but as a practical approach to harmonizing with the natural energies around us. By being mindful of these energies and how they interact with our living spaces, we can create environments that support our goals, health, and happiness.

Q: Feng Shui is deeply connected to the energy of a space. For our readers who are curious, what are some telltale signs that a space's energy may be misaligned, and how can one begin to address it?

In my years of practice, I've observed several indicators that often reveal energy misalignment in a space. These telltale signs include:

1. Persistent financial difficulties for occupants
2. Frequent turnover in residents or businesses
3. Unexplained health issues
4. Constant conflicts or disagreements
5. Feelings of stagnation or lack of progress

Recognizing these signs is crucial, but understanding the root causes is even more important. One of the most critical aspects in evaluating a space's energy is exploring its history, particularly the experiences of previous occupants. We've all heard of locations where businesses consistently fail, creating a "revolving door" effect. This often points to a fundamental problem with the energy of that space.

The key is to identify the underlying issue rather than simply trying to enhance positive aspects. No amount of positive enhancement can fix a space if the core problem isn't addressed. Drawing from my aeronautical engineering background, I approach spaces with an "airworthy or not" mindset. I rate environments on an A to F scale, with only A-rated spaces truly conducive to achieving significant results in life.

It's crucial to understand that you can't expect optimal outcomes from a B, C, or D-rated environment. However, every space offers moments of opportunity for improvement. These are the times when individuals should take action to move to an environment with better energy alignment.

Interestingly, some environments that might be considered "negative" can actually be productive for certain individuals if their line of work aligns with the energy present. It's not always about positive versus negative energy, but rather about the correct alignment between one's career or life path and the environmental energy.
      To begin addressing these issues:

      1. Research the history of the space
      2. Consult with a Feng Shui expert for a professional assessment
      3. Be open to making significant changes, including relocating if necessary
      4. Align your activities with the energy of the space when possible

In my experience, the most productive approach is to focus on finding or creating an environment that naturally aligns with your goals and energy, rather than trying to force a misaligned space to work. This approach often requires less ongoing effort and yields better results.

Q: What are some simple yet effective Feng Shui adjustments people can make in their homes or workplaces to foster positive energy?

When it comes to simple yet effective Feng Shui adjustments, it's important to remember that sometimes the best action is no action at all. Here are some principles to keep in mind:

        1. If things are going well, maintain the status quo: If you're experiencing positive results in your life, avoid making changes to your environment, especially to the direction you face while working or sleeping. The current arrangement is likely supporting your success, so it's best not to disrupt it.
        2. Experiment with directional changes when facing challenges: If things aren't going as desired, try altering the direction of key elements in your space. For example:
Rotate your bed to face a different direction
Change the orientation of your work desk or computer. Give these changes time to take effect, typically 2 to 3 months, and observe any new developments in your life.
        3. Be cautious with enhancements: I generally advise against blindly following recommendations to add plants, water features, lights, or candles to specific areas without a proper analysis of your environment. These "cures" can sometimes do more harm than good if not applied correctly.
        4. Seek professional guidance for deeper changes: While these simple adjustments can be helpful, consulting a Feng Shui master is advisable for more comprehensive changes or if you're dealing with persistent issues.

Many people mistakenly believe that Feng Shui is simply about creating harmony with your environment. This oversimplification, often repeated without a true understanding of Feng Shui's principles, has long been a source of frustration for me. Feng Shui doesn't aim to enhance your environment to bring it into harmony. Instead, it's about aligning yourself with the existing energy of your environment. True harmony in Feng Shui comes from this alignment - understanding and working with the inherent energies of a space, rather than trying to force the environment to conform to our desires. It's about recognizing the natural flow of energy and positioning ourselves to benefit from it, not about artificially changing the environment to suit our preconceived notions of harmony.

Q: Could you share a memorable experience where Feng Shui significantly transformed a space and its inhabitants' lives?

Among the many consultations I perform, one particularly memorable case involved a single mother who came to me after being diagnosed with cancer. She had already undergone one round of chemotherapy when we met.

Upon assessing her home's energy based on the current timing, I found it unfavorable for her well- being, especially concerning health. The negative energy was strongest at the front of the house and in her bedroom. Overall, the home's energy didn't align with her needs for recovery.

I suggested placing a few items in her environment to counteract the negative health energy. More importantly, I advised her to ask her doctor about postponing further chemotherapy until the new year, which was less than three months away.
When the new year arrived, I recommended a date for her to revisit her doctor and potentially restart chemotherapy if needed. However, the new year's energy showed no signs of cancer in her environment.

During her doctor's visit, they performed a PET scan. Surprisingly, it revealed no current signs of cancer in her body, only indications of past cancer. They continued testing her for several months after this scan, and she remained cancer-free throughout this period.

This experience stands out to me because of the remarkable change in her health that coincided with the shift in her home's energy.

Q:  What are some common misconceptions about Feng Shui you encounter, and how do you address them?

            Common Misconceptions About Feng Shui:

            1. Feng Shui and Religion: One misconception is that practicing feng shui conflicts with religious beliefs. In reality, feng shui is not a religion. It's a study of our environment and its effects on our well-being.
            2. Belief in Feng Shui: Some ask if you need to believe in feng shui for it to work. Feng shui operates based on environmental energy, not belief. It's linked to the natural energy surrounding us on Earth, which follows principles of physics as our planet rotates and orbits. Everything in nature involves energy and physics; humans are not exempt from these forces.
            3. Control and Feng Shui: Some people worry that feng shui might control them. On the contrary, feng shui empowers individuals to take control of their lives rather than leaving things to chance.
            4. Wealthy Homes Facing the Ocean: There's a belief that it's bad feng shui when you can see the back of a house upon entering, like in ocean-facing homes in wealthy neighborhoods. However, these homes are often the most valuable and owned by successful individuals, challenging this superstition.
            5. Sleeping Under Windows: The idea that sleeping under a window is harmful comes from ancient times when windows were just openings with wooden planks. It was unsafe due to potential intruders or weather. In modern times, with secure glass windows, this concern is largely outdated.

Understanding these points helps clarify that feng shui is a practical approach to harmonizing with our environment, not a set of rigid superstitions or religious practices.

Q: Feng Shui emphasizes harmony with nature. How can urban dwellers, who might feel disconnected from natural environments, incorporate Feng Shui principles into their lives?

To fully understand this concept, we need to grasp the classic teachings of feng shui and how they apply to modern times. In today's urban landscape, tall buildings represent the mountains of the past, while highways and roads symbolize the rivers and streams of yesterday.

When designing a new home or choosing a site for a future home, we must analyze our environment. We look at the qualities of energy present in the location and how these energies align with your individual needs and profession. This analysis forms the foundation for designing the home.

When selecting an existing home, we follow a similar process. We examine the quality of energies in the environment and assess how well they align with your current situation and future goals. This approach helps ensure that your living space harmonizes with your personal energy and aspirations.

By applying these principles, we adapt ancient feng shui wisdom to modern living, creating environments that support our well-being and success.

Q: With the evolving landscape of design and architecture, how do you see Feng Shui adapting and influencing future trends?

Over the past 20 years, my research across various U.S. cities and now extending into Europe has consistently revealed a strong correlation between a location's social and economic conditions and its architecture, road systems, and infrastructure. This finding reinforces my long-held belief that Feng Shui principles are at work in our environments, regardless of whether individuals consciously believe in them or not. The impact of these principles on our lives and communities is evident in the patterns I've observed. As we look to the future of design and architecture, I believe Feng Shui will continue to play a significant role, adapting to new challenges and technologies. Its fundamental concepts of harmony, balance, and energy flow are likely to inform sustainable design practices, wellness-centered spaces, and even smart city planning. The enduring relevance of Feng Shui lies in its ability to create environments that inherently support human well-being and success, a goal that aligns closely with the evolving priorities of modern urban design and architecture.
